Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.

We are all Staffordshire Regiment veterans who support this amazing charity. At an average age of 50 we will begin by spending the night of the 17th December 2019 sleeping rough in Waterloo/London to experience the harsh conditions our homeless veterans have to face every day. On the morning of the 18th December, we will set off on foot from Little Venice Canal London and complete a 170+ miles run along the Grand Union Canal path to Birmingham before turning off and heading for Lichfield. This will include spending a further 3 nights again sleeping rough, having run up to 50 miles per day, arriving at The King Head pub, Lichfield (Where the Staffordshire Regiment was formed in 1705) at lunchtime on Saturday 21st December 2019. The conditions will be variable, running in daylight and darkness. We are likely to experience the cold, wind, rain and even freezing snow with tired bodies and very sore feet.

STORM AND THE BOYS ARE TRAINING VERY HARD....

The team '6 Squaddies And A Dog' are made up as follows: 🐕🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️......

Leading from the front is Siberian Husky Storm, age 7 (50) in dog years). He has completed multiple long distance ultra marathons including 5 x 32 mile events, 5 x 50 mile events and two GB 24 hour events with his daddy who is Gary Linacre age 56 the oldest of the team who along with Storm runs the most miles on a weekly basis. He is ex 1 Staffords, 10 years service having served in the Gulf war and two tours of Northern Ireland.

Adam (H) Hunter age 45 the youngest in the team and is our only team member still serving. He joined the Staffordshire Regiment in 1995 with a 24 year career consisting of 2 tours of Northern Ireland, UN tour of Cyprus, 2 tours of Iraq and a tour of Afghanistan. He made his way through the ranks from Private to Captain. Hes now a proud officer of the Mercian Regiment but serving with 1 Lancs in Chester.  Adam enjoys all round general fitness like circuit training, swimming, running and cycling. He is also a children's football coach. Adam has never taken anything like this event on before but is keen to help the charity in any way he can.

Justin Grattan (Grat) age 46. Ex Small Arms School Corps (11 years service) and 1 Staffords, (14 years) 25 years total service, having served in the Gulf war, two tours of Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Afghanistan. He's the quickest in the team and runs up to marathon distances but has never taken on anything like this event before.

Dave Downing aged 48. Ex1 Staffords, 11 years service, he served in the Gulf war, 2 tours of Northern Ireland and Hong Kong. He recently completed Coast to Coast in Scotland. But would rather do his preferred fitness  X- fit and again he to hasn't taken anything on like this on before.

Tom Hardy aged 51. Ex 1 Staffords, 9 years service, served in the Gulf war and two tours of Northern Ireland. Not a natural runner, he has completed several half marathons and marathons over the last few years. He's excited about the challenge ahead and is training outside of his comfort zone in order to prepare for the task in hand. Legend....

About the charity

UK HOMES 4 HEROES PRIDE & PASSION

This Charity was founded on the 23rd April 2010 in response to the plight of homeless ex service personnel. It is estimated that over 4500 previously serving members of the British Armed Forces are sleeping rough in the UK today. With MOD due to be making cuts this figure is going to rise. UK Homes 4 Heroes objectives are: 1. To dedicate hostel style accommodation to our ex service personnel and only them. Providing a safe, clean living environment where they can feel secure and at home. 2. To help gain a permanent home through social housing, assisting through the application and bidding phases. 3. To provide counselling services for people with psychological disorders, i.e. Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Over the short period in which this charity has formed the response we have had from the British Public has been overwhelming. We have had interviews on BBC Radio 5 Live, coverage in the Sun Newspaper and countless updates in our local Paper, The Southwark News. reaction to this Charity has been incredible, we still need more help, more donations, more awareness and above all more support. We have a 16 strong team of dedicated professionals team heading this operation and we will not give up until we succeed. We have the backing of the London Pearly Kings & Queens, one of the oldest charitable institutes in Britain today.
