Story

Thank you for visiting my page.

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lee Warburton. I live in Blackpool with my fiancé and two daughters. I suffered a life-changing injury whilst serving in the British Army, and have since received support from Help for Heroes.

During a training exercise, I injured my lower spine (specifically, the L4-S1 nerve area that contributes to the formation of the large sciatic nerve that runs down the rear pelvis and terminates in the foot). This has resulted in permanent nerve damage down my right leg, and me being unable to use my right foot.

I have undergone several operations and procedures in the last 3-4 years to attempt to save the function of my foot, but nothing has fixed the injury and I am now awaiting a below-the-knee amputation to my right leg. This operation will help me to live a better life than I have been able to recently, to enjoy my time more with my two young daughters.

I consider myself lucky to have had the support of HELP FOR HEROES, and I would like to give something back to the charity, with your help. They have supported me, and support many others, with rehabilitation exercises, access to sports, and mental health & wellbeing services.

My ‘Tower 2 Tower’ challenge will see me cycle on a recumbent hand cycle from Blackpool Tower, England to the Eiffel Tower, France. The event will start on the 8th August 2022 & I will cover approximately 561 miles across 7 days in aid of HELP FOR HEROES.

Thank you for reading my story. Please donate, so that HELP THE HEROES can give more support to people like me. I’d love to smash my huge £5,000 target!
