On 7/1/00 my husband died in hours from meningococcal meningitis,he was 50 ,a wonderful father,husband and teacher.Our lives were changed  in those few hours ,the outcome might have been very different if we had known what  all the symptoms were and that it isn’t only babies that can contract this disease. Shockingly our GP  didn’t recognise the symptoms either.Meningitis Now supported me and my 2 daughters Claire & Laura. following his death.Over the years we have seen at first hand the research the charity has undertaken to aid research into new vaccines for  the different strains of this devastating disease. As well as supporting the bereaved ,tremendous help is given to those who survive but are left with life changing disabilities.

I am a Community Ambassador for the charity  this involves doing anything from giving talks,speaking to the media ,running Meningitis  awareness stalls at University Fresher Fairs to distributing  symptom cards to surgeries/nurseries .I see at first hand how some of the donations the charity receives are used..

Like everyone else I have met through Meningitis Now  in the 20 years since Kevin’s death I just want  no-one else to go through what we did  and to hopefully see a time when this disease is eradicated.

O
