My sister Emmeline and I decided this year it was our turn to put ourselves to the test in aid of Arthritis Research UK. Our Mum has been battling the excruciating and debilitating condition rheumatoid arthritis for many years yet she bravely carries on, despite the pain, with a smile on her face. We want to raise money for a charity dedicated to researching this awful disease. Every step we take during our challenges is one step towards a cure.In August 2014 I took on my biggest mountaineering challenge to date, a 5.5 day climb of Mount Rainier, Washington (4,392m). This is the most glaciated mountain, and biggest mountaineering challenge, in the contiguous United States. I carried my own kit and camping equipment, weighing up to 23kg, and due to the strict 'leave no trace' policy I also had to carry my own poop, in a bag, for 5.5 days... that's got to be worth sponsoring, right?! With my team we successfully summitted on August 29th at around 2:30pm.
On November 22nd, my sister Emmeline and I will take part in a 10k obstacle run, the Men's Health Survival of the Fittest Challenge. The obstacles include being soaked to the skin in muddy water, scrambling up steep platforms, climbing ropes and crawling through tunnels... remember this is happening at the end of November, in Britain. I've never run a 10k race, let alone a 10k obstacle race - being afraid of water this is a huge step outside of my comfort zone. All our costs have come out of our own pockets so EVERY PENNY we raise will go towards Arthritis Research UK.
Can you can sponsor us the equivalent of a pint, a Starbucks, your takeaway or dinner out, to help fund research to beat this awful disease?Thank you.
