Story

On August 15th 2015, aged 4,  our daughter Sara was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She had an 11 hour operation to remove the tumour and was cared for by Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.

After a month in hospital, Sara came home and found coming to terms with what she'd been through very difficult. It was a very testing time for all of us and it put a lot of pressure on the family unit. Our little boy was only 19 months old at the time, and family time together was rare in the after care of Sara, with numerous hospital appointments and post operative health problems and difficulties.

We have been lucky enough to have amazing post op support through Sara's medical team in Cardiff, consisting of her fabulous play therapist Anne, the paediatric neuro-specialist psychologist and neuro-oncology outreach nurse specialist.

Anne could see we were struggling as a family to get much needed time together and kindly put our names forward for a much needed family getaway with the Kid's Cancer Charity (formerly Christian Lewis trust). We were granted a fabulous and much needed trip away to Pembrokeshire where we stayed at the lovely caravan used for compassionate breaks for families like ours. We were able to forget physio, hydrotherapy, appointments, oncology appointments and scans for 5 days and make memories and spend quality time with each other for the first time in almost a year since Sara's diagnosis.

Having made some friends with other children with brain tumours and other cancers, many of whom have lost their hair through treatment, she decided she wanted to cut her long golden locks for the Little Princess trust who make wigs for children with hair loss through cancer. In doing this, she also wanted to raise some money for the charities that have helped her and the Kid's Cancer Charity was on the top of her list to say thankyou!
