We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

After years of ambling round the countryside with no particular purpose other than exercising the dog we have decided it's time for a challange. Mark and I were planning to take on a long distance path together but due to injury I'll be going it alone and have opted for 26 miles of the ridgeway - I will be abandoned in Goring-on-Thames early on the morning of October 10th 2009 and will walk along the Ridgeway to Bledlow then make a small detour into Thame and hopefully be home in time for tea.

It seems a shame to take on this marathon walk and not use it as a way of raising some money for charity which brings me to the point of this page. I will be walking in aid of Cancer Research UK.

As you may already know I lost my Dad to cancer some years ago so this is a charity which is very close to my heart. There are very few people who can make it through life without knowing someone, friend or family, who has been touched by cancer. By supporting Cancer Research UK you are supporting the largest independent organisation dedicated to beating cancer. Their research to date has seen cancer survival rates increase by 30% and their continued research will help save more lives.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this page and thank you for donating.

21.09.2009: Thank you to everybody that's already donated - quarter of the way to my target! Training is going well, just a few weeks left so panic is starting to set in.

05.10.2009: Less than a week to go and panic has turned into fear - I cam cope with the route and think I am OK with the distance but worried about getting hungry, carrying enough water and where will I go for a wee?

13.10.2009: Thank you to everybody that has donated, I managed to finish all 26 miles in 7.5 hours. Admittedly I did feel like lying down and never getting up again after 22 miles but a very supportive passer by helped me get over my little mental moment ;-) For the fool that suggested I run the distance next time I have one thing to say (and it's not repeatable here). Thanks again, your support is very much appreciated.
