Story

Thank you  for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

GRWE is the leading independent charity operating in the field of rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of unwanted, abused or abandoned greyhounds and lurchers.

GRWE's vision for the future is " a day when every greyhound and lurcher is free from risk or need."

Why have I chosen to bare my scalp for GRWE?

I wanted to do something to  celebrate my 10th year as a volunteer for GRWE whilst raising funds for this wonderful charity in their 20th year.

When is this crazy stunt happening?

On Sunday 7th of February at Edington Village Hall, Nr Bridgwater Somerset TA7 9HA

GRWE's Somerset Meet and Greet, so come along  and support me.

So why a head shave?

I can't run a marathon or do anything physically challenging but I can do this.   Hair is such a part of one's identity.  It is often the first thing that people notice about you.  So by shaving my head I am removing that part of my identity and starting again.

It is possible with a stretch of the imagination,  to  relate this  to the experience of so many of the greyhounds and lurchers  who  come into the care of GRWE.

Stripped of their identity  when they retire or when they are found wandering the streets, picked up in pounds or rescued in Ireland. they have the opportunity to un-pack their baggage and to reinvent themselves as family pets thanks to the care and attention they receive and the help that they are given to find new homes.

Whilst this experience won't cause me to  "re-invent" myself it will I hope raise much needed funds for my favourite charity.

It costs GRWE around £490, and often considerably more, to rescue and get each dog ready for homing. This includes neutering, vaccinations, flea treatments, wormings, kennel costs, dentals and other medical care the dog may need. Often dogs come to us in very poor condition and need substantial care and treatment before they are able to be homed, meaning the charity’s costs are even higher.

Every penny that you donate will help support the work of GRWE and make a difference to all the hounds in their care.

Thank you for reading this far, hoping for lots of support and warm weather in February!
