I will be walking 45km across the beautiful South Downs on Saturday 12th May 2018, raising funds for Heartstart Thatcham. Starting at Goodwood racecourse then walking 45km over different terrains.
Heartstart Thatcham do a terrific job of teaching as many people as possible FREE emergency Life support skills and raise funds for defibrillators to be placed in the local community. This is vital to save lives there and then.
I have chosen Heartstart as 1 of my charities to support on this walk because 2 people very close to me have been affected. They have been truly inspirational. My niece who had an aorta valve replacement in 2017 and most recent my dad who had an heart attack. Thankfully both are on the road to recovery. But heart attack can happen any time and anywhere and I would just like to raise as much as I can in order to help fund a defibrillator in my local community.
We teach, for FREE, Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills including both Heartstart and Call Push Rescue. The aim is to get as many people taught as possible so when the situation arises they can strp in and make a difference. Skills include recovery position, recognising a Heart Attack, what is a Cardiac Arrest and how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator. We also raise funds to allow defibrillators to be placed in the community. It is about providing skills and tools to save lives.
