The Storytelling Sisters Photography Exhibition is a product of The Lotus Flower livelihood program, Storytelling Sisters. The proceeds of this exhibition will be given back to the organisation and the women that contributed, providing an income and start in rebuilding their lives as heads of household. Two women who successfully participated in the class have been hired as photographers for The Lotus Flower projects and events moving forward. The project is explained in this blog post:
In 2014, the Yazidi people of Iraq were targeted by ISIS because they are a non-Muslim religious minority. The resulting genocide of men and kidnapping of women and children left an aftermath like those atrocities that have come before; the surviving women and children remain, where they must rebuild their community together. The Lotus Flower was specifically created to aid the rebuilding through empowerment, education, and livelihood programs, although the survivors themselves are the very source of power.
