Story

Hello you lovely people, it’s only me!

I can’t believe on 18th March 2021 will be a year since our ‘Mr B’, Dad lost his fight against cancer and flew back to be with his soul mate Mum.

The last few months of Dads life were filled with so much pain for him from the cancer and nobody would help us care for him in the way he deserved at home. That was until we got a phone call from the Butterfly Hospice in Boston. Dad was desperate to be home and not there, but after few days of him being admitted to the hospice, you could see he was in no pain, he was relaxed and felt safe. That in itself meant so much to the family, knowing he was being cared for as he so rightly deserved. I believe he also had plenty of banter with the staff in his true Mr B geordie style.

Myself and my family will never be able to thank the staff at the Butterfly Hospice enough. They were all incredible. The care Dad received was just out of this world. Nothing was too much trouble. We could never have made Dad comfortable at home like they did there.  The last night, myself and my sister wanted to stay with Dad and nothing was too much trouble. It never was a problem no matter what we asked for.

Dad died peacefully and pain free with my sister and I holding his hand 18 March 2020.

The staff are truly ‘superheroes’

We were hoping to raise money at his funeral and wake but as this was not possible due to COVID I have decided to take on this challenge to raise as much money as I possibly can. I want to know other patients can access this amazing service available to the local area.

I am going to walk 100 miles during the month of March in memory of Dad with my four legged best friend J Mo. I also have my sister in law Kirsty Barnes and my niece Willow Barnes (who will accompany her mummy in the pram) and my niece Amy -Jayne Lee also walking 100 miles too. So the team is building nicely. We are all very keen to raise as much as we possibly can.

This is where you guys come in. Im asking for your help in raising as much money as I possibly can in memory of our one and only MR B.
