Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In the far east of Russia, between Vladivostok and the Amur River that forms the border with China, two tiny populations of big cats survive in the face of habitat degradation and poaching – the Amur Tigers and Leopards. While a few hundred of the tigers remain in the wild, the population of Amur Leopards is reduced to around 30-35 individuals. A couple of hundred are in zoos around the world, including several in the UK.
The purpose is to raise funds for the Amur Leopard Programme run by Regent's Park’s Zoological Society of London.
A small group of children from St Mary Primary School, Welwyn will be participating in the walk accompanied and supported by parents. The route will be seven miles (11 km), commencing at Letty Green, Hertfordshire, and finishing at Broxbourne’s Paradise Wildlife Park, which is also involved with the conservation of these marvellous big cats. ‘Paradise’ is a ‘brand holder’ for the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (http://www.waza.org/en/site/home).
