We are 25,000 volunteers and counting to help 100,000 school children in Africa

Story

In November 2017 we were fortunate enough to be sponsored by our company, Linklaters, to join Mellon Educate volunteers in Khayelitsha - Cape Town's largest township. We spent one week improving and expanding schools in the area. This involved us working across a number of different areas, some of our daily tasks include block laying, mixing cement, plastering and painting.

We both loved our time working with Mellon Educate and want to continue to support a charity that we believe makes a real difference to hundreds of lives, each year. Over the next 5 months we will be arranging a number of events to help us fundraise, so that both of us can join Mellon Educate volunteers again in November 2018.

About Mellon Educate

Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by Niall Mellon. Since 2002 the charity, thanks to the enormous collective effort of some 25,000 volunteers, has built houses for 125,000 homeless people in Africa’s poorest townships. This was only possible because ordinary people took selfless action to do something truly extraordinary, lend a helping hand on the annual “building blitz” in South Africa. In 2012, Mellon Eductae proudly celebrated a milestone achievement for the charity with 25,000 houses completed. They have since shifted their focus to expanding and improving existing schools in townships in Cape Town.
