We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

On Sunday 15th April, Robert and I will be taking part in the Brighton Marathon. However, my means of transport for getting there will be slightly different….

From Monday 9th to Friday the 13th (lucky for some, I hope!) I will be running the c.100km distance from Essex to the monumental Brighton Palace Pier. Those keen mathematicians out there will note that this will equate to around 20km (approximately a half marathon) each day.

Following a well-needed rest (and all the pasta) on Saturday, I will take part in the Brighton Marathon, running my final 42km (26.2 miles). This time with Robert running with me.

Although beautiful, the run will involve the rather hilly North and South Downs, so it will be a bit of an endurance on the legs and knees. Total distance to run = 142km.

So, what's it all in aid of..?

Although I will be putting myself through quite a challenge, nothing can compare to the challenge that is faced every day from those that struggle with dementia. A pain and struggle which is felt by both the individual and extended right through to the hearts of their family and friends.

My nan was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, and it has been extremely tough for the family to see the wonderful character of my nan slowly slip away each day. As  I am sure many of you who have been in the same situation would agree, the biggest frustration that I have faced is knowing what I can do to help.

So, I am undertaking this challenge for three reasons:

1) To raise awareness about dementia, something that appears to be one of those rather difficult topics

2) To begin to understand the mammoth task that those with dementia face every day

3) ...in the hope that you'll sponsor me and raise money for a charity that is closest to my heart, Alzheimer's Society UK.

So, how can your donations help..?

Alzheimer's Society works tirelessly to challenge perceptions, fund research and improve care and support for those who suffer with dementia. They rely on our donations, so let's take on dementia together!

For every £1 spent, 89p goes directly towards improving the lives of people with dementia. Read more about the wonderful work that they do here: https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/

Thank you! Let's unite in the fight against dementia!
