Story

This 24hr Game-a-thon has been arranged to raise awareness for the Bristol Children’s Hospital, Grand Appeal Charity.

The inspiration for this event is this wonderful little boy Reubs, here is his story;

Hello my name is Reuben William Simpson and I'm 18 months old! When I was 10 months old I was diagnosed with something called 'Hirschsprung's Disease', this was quite unusual because normally this condition is diagnosed within the first few days of life. Hirschsprung's Disease (HD) is quite rare, with only 1 in 5000 people being affected. It basically means a lack of nerve cells were formed in my intestine when I was growing in my mummy's tummy. I have the rarest form (Total Colonic HD) which means that there were no nerve cells in my large intestine at all. I had to have a stoma formed and to wear a colostomy bag for 7 months, it really itched me and I always tried to pull it off. On 18th May this year, they took my whole intestine out, reversed my Ileostomy and stitched me back together again. I can now poop from my bottom properly and thanks to the amazing and kind staff at Bristol Children’s Hospital, hopefully I will be able to lead a happy, relatively normal life.

I know potty training will be a challenge, as will having to watch my diet among other things but ultimately I am a very happy little boy. I love my scars (my shark-bite) and I can't wait to show all the ladies when I grow up!
