First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to read a bit more about the charity I am raising funds for - Raleigh International.

As you may already know, I have recently returned from a 16 month backpacking trip around the world.

During my travels, I had an incredible experience. However, I also witnessed the heart-wrenching hardships certain countries are going through which we in the Western world take so much for granted - lack of basic resources such as, fresh water, sanitation and equal opportunities for all.

After seeing this, I was desperate to dedicate my time to help those in need but, I was keen to do it 'properly'. I wanted to raise funds and dedicate an extended amount of time to the cause - not just a couple of days here and there. Enter Raleigh...

What does Raleigh achieve?

Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity that challenges and inspires volunteers from around the world to work with communities living in poverty. They work in remote, rural areas to improve access to safe water and sanitation, build community resilience, sustainably manage natural resources and to protect vulnerable environments.

What does the expedition involve?

I will be joining other volunteers from around the world to undertake a 13 week programme in Costa Rica and Nicaragua where I will be the charity's Communications Officer.

Over 13 weeks I will be visiting the sites of all the projects across Costa Rica and Nicaragua and reporting on the work the volunteers are doing at each site via Raleigh's blog and social media pages - so you will be able to keep track of where your money is helping!

Where do your donations go?

The funds I raise do not pay for my flights, visa or kit.

Aside from paying for my upkeep on the expedition, my fundraising also contributes to the participation of locals on the project. Therefore, Raleigh is ensuring that the local communities will benefit in the long run, not just whilst foreign volunteers provide help - this is not just a short term fix.

On top of this, the money raised will go towards ensuring Raleigh provides impactful and sustainable programmes as well as, project materials and tools.  

How am I fundraising?
