We provide expert care and support to people affected by life-limiting illness

Story

Sadly on 12th April, we lost my mum to pancreatic cancer. Despite this cruel cancer, mum never lost her positive can do attitude. She touched so many hearts with her warmth and personality.

Throughout this battle, Mountbatten Hospice looked after not only my mum, but all of us, in helping mum be as comfortable as she can be, but the whole family in talking us through what to expect and what was to come. When she went into the Hospice, I've never known such a lovely place in what is for everyone the hardest of times. They're kind, caring and made what has been the most horrible of circumstances just that little bit easier.

Prior to mum's passing, my cousin, Dennis and I cooked up an idea to cycle from my mum's first home, to what turned out to be her last. The journey is circa 130 miles, and we decided we will do it in 1 day. We think it will be about 14 hours.

We are going from Lyndon Road, Rubery to Linden Grove, Eastleigh.

Mum hated the idea! She worried about the traffic and how far it was and that I am not actually a cyclist. I said to her, what she has gone through and put up with, this was nothing. And in my opinion, it is nothing vs. what people with cancer have to go through.

Mum wanted us to raise money for the hospice, she was so grateful to MacMillan but wanted to raise money for the smaller charities, and always spoke so highly about Mountbatten.

So there you have it, training for 130 miles in one day has begun, the big day is 21st September 2019. We will be starting at 3am in the morning hoping to finish at 5pm.

Please donate as much as you can, the hospice provides care and love and support when people most need it. We needed it, and unfortunately other people will need it as well. Dig deep and help those in the worst of times be as comfortable as they can be.
