MISSION TO BLACKBURN

As a lot of people will be reading this will be aware last August I made a silly statement on Twitter. I have supported Reading FC for over 22 years and I love to interact on Twitter with the other Reading fans.

I said the following:

"If Ola John signs for us I will walk to Blackburn for the last game of the season"

At the time Reading hadn't signed anyone for a while and I thought the signing of Ola John  was a pie in the sky internet rumour and we'd never be able to sign a well known player like Ola John, even on loan. Well I was very wrong and later that evening he signed for us.

I was swiftly reminded by all the people on Twitter who had liked my tweet and retweeted many times over that I had made the statement about walking to Blackburn. The world had now seen it and as I am a man of my word I knew what I had to do and so the planning for the walk began.

I plan to walk from the centre circle of Reading FC's ground on Monday 2nd of May and complete the walk on Saturday the 7th at Ewood Park Blackburn, again by reaching the centre circle of the pitch. I will be walking over 200 miles in 5 days and walking for up to 14 hours per day. I will be undertaking the challenge alone and will have no outside help or use any form of transport apart from my two feet.

The charity I have chosen to represent is called Daisy's Dream and they are based in Reading. They are a charity who help bereved children and also help them deal with if somebody close to them is suffering from a life threatening illness. They do great work and I urge you to visit their website for more information. http://www.daisysdream.org.uk/

"Daisy’s Dream supports children and their families who have
been affected by the life threatening illness or bereavement of someone
close to them.

The death or serious illness of a significant person in a child’s
life can be devastating and difficult to understand. It can have a major impact on life at home, school life, and friendships.
Parents, carers and professionals can contact Daisy’s Dream for advice on ways to support children and young people. Our professionally qualified family workers can provide information and advice as well as direct support for children in their homes or schools.

We believe that children can learn to cope with death and seriousillness if they are given opportunities to understand what has happenedand the chance to express their grief."

Please give generously if you can. I know that times are tough these days but I can assure you the pain and misery I will be suffering will be worth every penny you give me. I am working hard to get my body in shape for it and have completely changed my lifestyle in the hope I am in decent shape come May 2nd.

I will complete this challenge...... You have my word. Thank you for reading!
