Story

Swansea Maggie’s Staff and supporters are taking part in the 2.6 challenge.

As you may know the 2.6 challenge has been launched to support UK charities, encouraging people to create their own challenge in connection with the number 2.6. The London marathon would have taken place on Sunday 26th April 2020 and all the people who had planned to run in aid of Maggie’s Swansea will not be able to compete and fundraise.

Many of our fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed which has had a huge impact on our income. As an independent charity we do not receive government funding and rely on the generosity of the public to continue our work and deliver a service for people affected by cancer across south west Wales.

The Maggie’s team are busier than ever, offering cancer support over the phone/virtual video calls etc alongside supporting NHS staff. We are pleased that Singleton Hospital is currently using the Maggie’s Swansea centre as a staff hub for NHS workers during the pandemic.

Maggie's Swansea staff are taking on different challenges starting on Sunday 26th April. Lucy will be hula hooping for 26 minutes every day for 26 days. Pippa and her family will be doing 26 keepy uppies each, a total of 104. Sarah will be walking her dog 2.6 kilometres and Lucia will be skipping 260 skips. Susie's son Bryn and his friend Emile are cycling from the comfort of their own homes for 12 hours non stop! Laura will be running 2.6 miles.

As you can see this is certainly a challenge for us :-) and to help us on our way Swansea Maggie’s Ambassador Alan Curtis and our good friend and supporter Kevin Johns will be doing 260 keepy uppies…each! If you would like to match them, please send us your pictures/videos to share.

With the challenges now set we thank you very much for your support and will update you on our progress on Maggie’s Swansea Facebook and twitter pages.
