Millie and Henry are aiming to raise money for the wonderful Designability on Sunday 26th April, on what would have been the day of the London Marathon.
Millie will do 26 laps of our garden in her Wizzybug with Henry alongside her, running/doing the odd lap on his space hopper! Although our garden is not huge and Millie is a real Wizz in her bug (:-)) now, this will still be a huge physical effort for Millie's body and she'll need to put all those manoeuvring skills in to practice!
So who are Designability and why would we like to support them?
Designability make and loan out the wonderful Wizzybug (a small power wheelchair) to disabled children under five years old. Millie has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and although she is very bright, physically she needs adult support in every part of her daily life.
Millie has had her Wizzybug for almost two years now and it’s had such a positive impact on her life. ‘Wizzy’ has given Millie the independence to do some things by herself, go where she wants to in the house and garden and has allowed her to play with her older brother Henry without adult assistance. ‘Wizzy’ is also teaching her life changing skills, as she'll be ready to progress on to a larger power wheelchair in time for starting school, having learnt how to drive ‘Wizzy’.
Each Wizzybug on the loan scheme costs Designability £4,850 to fund. That covers the parts, build, occupational therapy appointment, ongoing support, any repairs needed and the ability to refurbish each ‘bug to help another two children. The Wizzybug is a loan scheme, so completely free to it's users but it needs support to continue with their amazing work.
Any small part you can contribute will help Designability fund another child’s very first powered wheelchair and give them their first taste of independence too.
