Story
Dignity and care at the end of our life is something we all hope for. But when we sought this for my wife's brother, I was surprised to find that Hospice's are all funded as charities rather than as part of the NHS. Michael Sobell Hospice looked after Brian and his family with such care in his final week of life, that my eyes were suddenly opened to the importance of our Hospice's - and so I want to make a contribution to their £1.6m annual funding. Brian stayed one week - that means my ambitious target was to raise £2500 - the cost of one weeks care. Now thanks to everyone's generosity I have raised my target to over £4000 - which means it will also cover the cost of the nurses for that week...
I love walking, and so I have decided to really test myself over a week in May.
I live in Marlow, so I am going to walk from Marlow Bridge to the Source of the Thames - about 115 miles.
But walking on the flat is pretty dull compared hill walking, so I am then planning to walk the 3 Peaks - Snowdon, Sca Fell and Ben Nevis.... and then return to Marlow.
All told this is nearly 150 miles and over 3000m elevation and I have allowed 8 days but am looking to complete in 7!!
I hope that you agree that this is suitably challenging, and that you will sponsor my efforts in support of Michael Sobell Hospice. (www.michaelsobellhospice.co.uk)
