Story

My team-mate Dave and I,  will race the Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race in South Africa on 21 – 28 March and cover 743 kilometres, including <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in race the Cape Epic Mountain Bike race on 21 to 28 March 2009 which covers 743 kilometres, including16,650 metres of climbing over gruelling mountains and passes.  Our team is called Epic4Joe and we're raising money for The Myelin Project UK who fund research into finding treatment and cures for the Leukodystrophies and Multiple Sclerosis.

Our little friend, Joseph Swift (attached pic), has a rare form of Leukodystrophy and we met him last year at Ironman Zurich where his Dad raced and raised money and awareness via tri4joe.com  We were taken by Joseph and the efforts his parents were going to.  When the opportunity came up for us to do the Cape Epic event, we thought of Joseph and hence the team name: Epic4Joe.

Joseph's form of Leukodystrophy leaves him with very little control of any muscle in his body.  He cannot sit up, roll, stand up, walk, talk...so many of the things that we all take for granted.  His condition is degenerative and progressive and there is no treatment or cure.  Hopefully with our help, more money will be spent on researching and finding some treatment and ultimately, a cure.

Joseph goes through his own epic every day, so here's where we do our bit for him and the many others like him.
