The Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care

The Lavender Trust raises money specifically to fund Breast Cancer Care's innovative range of information and support services for younger women. Being diagnosed at a young age can be very isolating, and younger women often have specific concerns; services include publications, telephone and web-based support.

Thanks for visiting my page.

I quite like cycling and I quite like a challenge. So, on August the 24th of this year I will be riding 300 miles in 24 hours from Newcastle to London with my fellow compatriot, Alex.

That's the easy bit...

The big challenge will be to raise as much money as possible for The Lavender Trust, a Breast Cancer Care charity that supports young women affected by breast cancer.

Here's why...

In 2010 my aunt, Rae, lost a two year battle with breast cancer. In that time, my family also discovered we were carrying a mutated form of the gene BRCA1 (google it), a gene responsible for the increased chance of female cancer. As a result, they estimate that the chances of a female carrier getting a female cancer in their lifetime could be as high as 80%.

In real terms, this means that my Mum, big Sister, little Sister, Niece, Cousins, Daughters and all future generations of women will be at risk. (And not to forget the other families carrying this gene.)

Together the women of my family have already participated in runs, walks and sky dives, raising money for various cancer charities. They've been incredibly strong and brave. For that, I feel humongously proud.

It's my turn to show some support, so cycling 24 hours for a great charity seems like an easy thing to do.

How can you help?

I'm aiming to raise £5 for every mile cycled, £1500 in total. So, if you would like to sponsor me for a mile or two I would be extremely grateful.

p.s If you know of anyone else that may like to sponsor me or could help out with cycling related stuff please forward my details on!
