Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On June 14th I will be attempting to play 10 rounds of golf in a day at Hillsborough Golf Club, this will mean that I'll cover over 45 miles on foot and hit somewhere in the region of 850 shots.  If you are unsure how much of an undertaking this is, find a golfer and ask them, their reaction will tell you. Or, find a runner and ask them how they'd like to cover a 45 mile Ultra Marathon whilst stopping on average every 100 yards to break up any rhythm.

My chosen charity is The Sheffield Hospitals Charity and in particular the Jessops Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNU) which has recently done amazing things for some close friends of mine Wayne and Debra.

During the birth of their first child recently, baby Gene's heart stopped for 21 minutes, thanks to the determination and never giving up attitude of the staff that day his heart was finally started.  Clearly they had all been through a traumatic experience and still had a big battle ahead of them.  Gene's kidney's had failed, he couldn't breathe for himself, had zero brain activity and was in a coma but thanks to the amazing work carried out over the next few weeks, and, a miraculous recovery from Gene, all three of them are now home.  Gene has since made massive improvements, recently hitting his baby milestones of lifting his own head, smiling and taking an interest in toys.  He is still fed down a tube through his nose and into his stomach as he hasn't got a strong suckle but this like everything else is slowly improving.

The money raised through your sponsorship/donations will go directly to the ward where they stayed and that did so much amazing work.  The money will be used by the ward to purchase things that they require that can't always be funded by the NHS, previously through past donations some of things purchased include:

  • The Tulip Room - A quiet room for bereaved parents to spend time with their baby
  • A twin cot with heated mattress
  • I-pads so that parents can keep an eye on baby when they are not able to be with them
  • Renovation of 4 flats so that parents can stay with their ill babies if they live outside Sheffield
  • small dummies for premature babies

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
