Story
On Sunday 7th February I'll be attempting to run a full marathon for the first time ever. In the process, I'm aiming to raise some funds and awareness for Action Mental Health NI. A charity that does so much great work throughout our country and are more relevant now than ever given the extremely fragile state of many who were already struggling with their mental health as well as those who have recently started to struggle due to the several lockdowns enforced upon us and the impact that covid has had on our livelihoods.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated for such a great cause, much appreciated, Matty :)
A few stats to bare in mind;
- NI has highest rate of suicide in the UK.
- We have higher levels of depression, higher antidepressant prescription rates and higher incidences of self harm than the rest of the UK.
- People here experience 20-25% higher levels of mental health issues vs the rest of the UK.
- 1 in 5 adults are reported to have a diagnosable mental health condition at any given time.
