We raise life-changing funds to enhance care at UHS

Story

Maxwell Christopher Revell was born on Friday 3rd July at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton via emergency C-section. Not only was he 14 weeks early, he weighed a tiny 430g (which is under a pound!). One of the smallest babies they’ve ever had on the unit.

Not only did he have a very small chance of surviving due to his lack of development and growth, he has had to do it during this COVID pandemic.

As many are aware, Maxwell is still fighting on! He spent 5 months on the NICU at Princess Anne Southampton and is currently on the Paediatric Unit/s at Southampton General Hospital.

I cannot speak highly enough of the level of care and compassion given at the NICU. They really do perform miracles and give babies like Maxwell a chance to survive and prosper. Also the fantastic psychological team supporting myself and Georgia along the emotional rollercoaster it is.

It has been a far from smooth ride. Maxwell has fought off multiple infections and has been on a ventilator for a lot of his short life so far. He also has chronic lung disease, metabolic bone disease and cerebral atrophy which comes with being an extreme preemie. He has tried nearly every breathing machine on the unit, nearly every drug in the cupboard and been looked after by nearly every nurse. He had become quite the celebrity there!
Maxwell has shown that he is one tough cookie for what he’s had to endure, our little fighter. There have been many occurrences too close to call but he has pulled through every single one of them (so far).

This is a great opportunity to show our gratitude to the unit for giving Maxwell the best chance possible to not only survive, but to grow up and thrive. There are still many challenges and difficulties to be faced but none of this would have been possible without the amazing work and care given by the Princess Anne Neonatal Unit.

The Isle of Wight Challenge is a 108km walk around the entire coastline of the island over the course of the weekend 30th April and
1st May 2022. Myself (Nick), Sam, Will and Jordan are doing it to raise funds for the NICU so would be so grateful for as many donations as possible, money couldn’t go to a better place. The unit always needs equipment to make these (little!) miracles happen.

There are some photos in the gallery to show just how far our little boy has come.

Thank you.
