Story

Ar yr 20fed o Fehefin, bu Meirion Llywelyn Davies, Yr Hen Gapel Peniel, Llanllechid yn cymryd rhan yn Sportiff beicio y Quebrantahuesos ym mynyddoedd y Pyranees. Ystyr 'Quebrantahuesos' yw'r 'malwr esgyrn' ac yn wir, mae'r ras yn dipyn o sialens gyda 120 milltir o daith, yn cynnwys 4 copa gyda dringfeydd 3500 o fedrau! Llwyddodd Meirion i feicio'r holl ras mewn 7 awr a 26 munud gan groesi'r llinell derfyn yn y categori aur. Cymerodd y ddringfa olaf y Col de Portalet awr a hanner ar ben ei hyn. Er mae'n hyderus buasai wedi gorffen 20munud yn gynt pe tai wedi arfer redio ei feic ar 50mya a cynt lawr allt. Roedd dros ddeg mil o feicwyr yn cymryd rhan, yn cynnwys beicwyr proffesiynol fel Miguel Indurain (cyn enillydd y Tour de France).

Roedd Meirion yn gwneud y sportiff i gasglu arian tuag at gronfa Cymdeithas Clefyd Motor Neurone. Bu farw mam yng nghyfraith Meirion i'r clefyd ddwy flynedd yn ol ac mae casglu arian tuag at y cyflwr yn agos iawn at galon y beiciwr a'i wraig Meleri. Mae'r cyfraniadau yn parhau i ddod i mewn ond mae Meirion eisoes wedi llwyddo i gasglu dros £1200 a hoffai ddiolch i bawb am eu cefnogaeth.

On the 20th of June Meirion Davies of Llanllechid,  recently completed the challenging Qubrantauesos (the bone breaker) cycling sportive in the Pyrenees. The event is named after a local vulture that breaks bones and is considered the hardest sportive in Spain. At 120miles distance and with 3500meters of climbing - three times the height of Snowdon, it is indeed a great challenge.  On the 20th of June, Meirion completed the course in 7hours 26 minutes, which put him into the gold standard. Meirion said “the last climb the Col de Portalet took an hour and a half on its own. I am sure I could have finished 20 minutes faster if I was used to riding my bike at 50mph+ on some of those descents!” About 10,000 took part in the event which included famous riders like the 5 time Tour de France winner Miguel Indurain.

“I have wanted to do the event for years and managed to get in this year through their lottery entry system.    As I got in I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise awareness and money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. My wife lost her mother to this illness 2 years ago so it’s a cause close to our hearts as a family. We have raised £1200 and I’d like to thank everyone for their support!”
