Story

David's Story

In May 2017, my wife, Linda was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Motor Neurone Disease known as Progressive Bulbar Palsy.

Despite the unexpected trauma, Linda continues to be determined to fight all the way, an attitude that is consistent with her approach to life.  She has good days, not so good days and bad days but gets through them all.

She is completely without speech and communicates through an app on her phone or a variant of sign language only known to me (sometimes ) and cannot walk without the use of a stroller or her wheelchair.

Since her diagnosis she has not only had the support of the Rosewood Centre, an outpost of Kirkwood Hospice at Dewsbury District Hospital but also the West Yorkshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.  We regularly attended their Branch Meetings at Tong Garden Centre and Whitley’s Garden Centre in Mirfield though the progress of her condition has prevented us going over the last few months.

Our thanks must go to in particular to Sal Hastings, Jackie Johnson and Sue Starkey of the West Yorkshire Branch who throughout our membership have been immensely supportive of us both at meetings, on messenger and indirectly through Locala and the Rosewood Centre.

All donations will go to the West Yorkshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Fund
