Story
10 years ago, experience and expertise along with the professionalism of the neurosurgeons, doctors, nurses and all support staff involved at the Royal Hallamshire would not have been enough to save my life. If it wasn't for groundbreaking research and technologies gained from fundraising I wouldn't be alive today. I owe my life to not only the medical staff at the hospital but to all of the fundraisers out there.
My story started when I was transferred to the Royal Hallamshire on March 2007.
I was admitted to ward 14 Neurology in the very early hours having suffered severe brain injuries. Haemorrhaging and completely unresponsive, I lay motionless with a badly fractured skull and two ribs. It was decided to put me into and induced coma with a Glasgow coma scale less than 3. My life is in the ballance.
I remember hearing friendly female voices with a funny accent. I only remember the accent and no particular details. I was listening and wondering. From that moment onwards I can honestly say that I have never experienced such love and compassion from anything or anyone else. Other than my mum of course 😂. The staff were unbelievable.
My entire family flooded the lift areas and doorways of the ward. They were taken care of just as I was and informed punctually throughout my stay. I remember the doctors and nurses being so helpful, caring and sociable. Above all they were professional and did a great job of everything. I know we expect this from our NHS but until you experience it for yourself it's hard to grasp.
Without the funding the professionals taking care of me would simply not be able to do so. It's that easy to explain. Sheffield Hallam is the heart of Neuroscience and research that need fundraising to survive and grow. To continue to develop medical studies creating new ways of survival.
Please help me to raise as much to 10k as possible. This will help in such a way that you won't realise. The equipment that costs so much money to develop just may save your life one day. Just like it did mine. Mr Thomas carrol and staff I owe you my life. Thank you x
