The picture above is far more tranquil than I expect most of the race to be... I'm sure we will be contending with gale force winds, broken sheets, damaged sails, seasick crew, poor visibility and so forth making the 11 months from August 2017 to July 2018. (Some of it, of course, might actually be this tranquil.)

This is far longer than I've ever sailed before (9 days), or even been away from home before. Living on a boat for 11 months is going to be rather... interesting. Possibly even challenging (although putting up with all the rest of my crew is going to be the real challenge).

Anyway, let's raise some money for a good cause whilst I'm about it! UNICEF seems like an excellent cause - they provide aid to mothers and children, mostly in developing countries - and is also the official charity/partner of the Clipper Round The World race.
