Story

My name's Michelle and I've had M.E. for 17 years. It started when I was 17 and I've spent a lot of that time housebound, and periods of being bedbound. Research into M.E. is vastly underfunded and as a result millions of people the world over are suffering in silence, and with outdated treatments that can actually make their health worse. For many of us lockdown is not so different from the daily life we live with.

I wanted to do something to help raise money for the M.E Association and so I'm taking part in the 2.6 Challenge. Since I am housebound due to my health, and have very little energy and concentration at the moment, I chose to set myself the challenge of making a 2.6 metre long braid using a lucet. The lucet is a two-pronged tool used in the Viking and Medieval eras to create braids and cords. Since I love history and have recently learned how to do a basic weave on the lucet I decided to challenge myself! I think it will take around 5-6 hours for me to complete the lucet braid, but this will have to be stretched out in 10-15 minute stints over a number of days.

I appreciate any donations you make and want to thank you for helping to raise funds for the M.E. Association.
