MARATHON UPDATE
Although I haven’t run a marathon...yet!

I have been training for it for 8 months, I have run over 500 miles, I have run, cross trained or worked out for over 100 hours, I have organise a cake sale and a quiz night, I have visited numerous businesses for raffle prizes, I have tried out numerous eating and hydration strategies, I have run a half marathon every week this year, I have abstained from alcohol for three months, I have spent a fortune on running kit, race entries, gel packs, gym membership and most of all physio appointments, I have had athletes foot, plantar fasciitis, a frozen shoulder, bleeding nipples and more alarmingly red urine.
I have pledged to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my dad, Harry, and my brother-in-law, Tony, who both lost their lives to heart disease. I do hope you will help me smash through my target by sponsoring me to run the London Marathon on April 13th.
Mick

For 50 years the British Heart Foundation has been dedicated to the fight against heart disease. They fund research into the main causes and help people who are living with heart conditions as well as educating people into living longer, healthier lives.

My father Harry died from heart disease 30 years ago. He was the first person close to me to pass away, it was tragically early in his life in a time when information on healthy living was limited. More recently my brother-in-law Tony lost his life to a heart attack and this has inspired me to help the British Heart Foundation raise money and awareness into their work.

I have been a casual jogger for nearly 20 years and only ever run over ten miles once and that was when I was ten years younger. So the London Marathon, well any marathon will be a new challenge for my aging legs and the muscles held within. Since receiving a Heart’s Runner place with the BHF for the London Marathon, I have been working hard on my training and over the coming months this will intensify and no doubt become more unpleasant. Abstaining from evenings down the pub, threshold training, Kenyan hill running and three hour runs on cold, wet Winter Sunday mornings are amongst the joys to come.

Please keep up to date with my marathon blog at www.warnesy.co.uk/marathon/ and on my Facebook page. I hope these entries will educate, amuse or horrify you enough to encourage you to give as generously as you can to match the effort I will be putting in to being in the best shape possible to run the Marathon on April 13 2014.

I have pledged to raise over £2000 and fully intend to exceed that target with a number of events including the run itself. All will be revealed as time goes by.

I would like to thank you all in advance for your support and sponsorship and look forward to April 14 when I can put what’s left of my feet up and have a small beer to celebrate a job well done.
