Story
If anyone had told me last year that I'd be signing up to run the London Marathon in April 2021, I probably would have laughed at them.
I was massively overweight and unfit towards the back end of last year, which is when I decided I didn't want to feel the way I did anymore and started losing weight and upping the amount of exercise I'm doing.
8 months later, I'm 4 stone down and 2 stone off my end goal. I decided when lockdown started I needed a new challenge, so I started the couch to 5k programme.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and after completing the 9 weeks I wanted to push myself to do some longer distances. To date the longest run I've completed is just over 8 miles. Being the incredibly ambitious (and possibly absolutely mental) person I am, I decided to apply to a charity for one of their London Marathon places.
Which leads me to the chosen charity, who are Caudwell Children. These guys do incredible work with disabled children and their families to help the children lead as normal lives as possible. They do this by supporting the families in various ways, helping to fund specialist equipment that might be out of budget for some and meeting with the families to ensure they cater to the needs of the individual.
They also do a lot of work with autism, and have set up a multi million pound centre to help speed up the processss families have to go through in order to gain a diagnosis, which in some cases can take a very long time. This is a massive help to any families who are in need of assessments and without Caudwell's help may have been waiting a long time for one!
I'm looking to run the London Marathon in under 5 hours as a minimum, and if I can break 4 and a half hours I'll be very happy!
