"Hi my name is Millie-Rose and I’m only 20 months old, I live at home with my Mum, Dad, Brother and sister. I am a happy go lucky little girl and I love Baby Jake and playing at home with my toys, my favourite is Peppa Pig.
Last summer I started to feel poorly in my tummy. Mummy took me the Doctors and then the hospital but they said it wasn’t anything to worry about and even when my eyes started to swell and lumps appeared on my head, the Doctors still weren’t concerned.
A few weeks later I felt really poorly and when Mummy took me to the doctors they sent sent me home again, Mummy was still worried so she took me to A and E where doctors rushed around to see me straight away, and I had to stay overnight, it was scary being away from home, Mummy looked scared too".
When I arrived at the hospital Millie had lots of tests. The next day Millies Dad joined us and we were met by a doctor with a very serious look on his face, we knew it was going to be bad news but neither of us were prepared for what he said... "Your daughter has Cancer".
Further tests were carried out, we were in so much shock I dont think I knew what the tests were for. Time seemed to stop, I wondered if they were testing her again to see if they had made a mistake but when we were met once again by another serious faced doctor my heart sank. He told us Millie had Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive and hard to treat Cancer, and she was in the final stages, Millie was in serious trouble, we were numb.
Chemotherapy started straight away, we focussed on Millie and tried to stay positive. Inside we were going through every emotion possible, devastation, heartbreak, despair, denial, blind panic, anger and then came the harsh realisation of what this cancer could do to our beautiful Millie Rose. This was when we started to research the disease and we began to learn about what that really meant for us as a family. We realised even if Millie could beat this monster there was an 80% chance it could come back, and if it did there is no relapse protocol in the UK.
We found a charity called Families Against Neuroblastoma and we started to speak to other families who were ahead of us in treatment. This is when we learned about options that are available around the world and although they cost a lot, some being around £500,000, we saw it could be done and we wanted the same lifeline for Millie so we asked FAN for help and now we are asking you.
We have a huge mountain to climb but we know with your help we can get there, we need to rely heavily on the support of the local community and the generosity of the public, to help us raise the huge sums needed to give Millie a chance at life.
Millie-Rose is the most beautiful baby girl, full of joy and love, she is a little ray of sunshine in our lives, and loves cuddles with Mummy, Millie wants to be Peppa Pig when she grows up, we are just desperate to give her the chance to grow up.
