The challenge
The 15 Mishcon de Reya trainees are going to walk, run, cycle, swim and generally move their way to over 1300 miles between them over a course of one month.
To be precise, we are aiming to clock up 1378 miles, being the distance from our offices in Africa House, London to Tangier, Morocco on the African continent: Africa House to Africa!
The trainees have been given a £12,000 target to raise to fund a new dormitory for the teachers who teach in one of Lewa's supported schools, Ngare Ndare. This school, like all of Lewa's supported schools, is in a remote area and in order to attract the best teachers, new accommodation is necessary. It is also of huge benefit to the girls who board at the school to know that a teacher is on site for them 24 hours a day.
The great work of Lewa
Lewa runs an education programme alongside its conservation work. 21 schools in the neighbouring areas around the sanctuary are now direct beneficiaries of our education programme. In 2004, Lewa was only supporting four schools. A decade later, this has increased to 21, with the prospects of extending into the greater conservation area beyond our borders.
Conservation has proved to be a true catalyst for development and change in the communities neighbouring Lewa. The education programme remains one of the most impactful way that Lewa demonstrates conservation has the power to transform the fate of communities, their children and generations.
Please donate as generously as you are able, as every little makes a difference!
