Story

STOP! Thanks so much for visiting our page. We are over the moon to have collected over £1000 for the Mercy Corps - thank you so much everybody - but now we have completed that task, we are now raising funds for the ambulance that we will drive and leave for the use of the local community in Mongolia. If you would like to sponsor the ambulance, we have a bank account especially for this purpose - here are the details:
Sort Code: 40-23-17
Account Number: 51262653
Cheques payable to The Mongol Rally

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page! Victoria and I are taking part in the Mongol Rally - driving from Goodwood to Ulaanbaatar! We're going to be driving an ambulance which we will leave there for the Mongolians. Their medical infrastructure is in a dreadful state of disrepair - the Soviets built most of it but abandoned it when they left in 1990 so it's had very little investment for 20 years. The only hospitals are in the capital so our gift of the ambulance really will save lives.

In addition to the ambulance we need to raise £1,000 for our chosen charity - Mercy Corps. These guys do an incredible range of work - setting up schools, building children's playgrounds, helping the disabled find work, combating the alcoholism that is rife within the teenagers in Mongolia and generally trying to help a hugely disadvantaged country out of poverty to benefit from the things that you and I take for granted in the way we live in the UK.

Here are some examples of what your money will enable the Mercy Corps to do:
£1.50 will buy one tree sapling to help prevent Mongolian farmers from overgrazing their pastures
£6.50 will allow one unemployed or low income person to attend a business skills training course.
£10 will pay for one person to be given practical employment training for 8 days to learn a new trade, from carpet weaving to making horse riding accessories
£26 will enable an unemployed woman to attend a 30 day training course on vegetable growing
£60 will provide text books for pupils in 5 rural schools
£120 will provide a group of 20 people with life changing business skill trainings
£200 will repair and equip a training room to teach skills to youth who are unemployed and battling alcohol addiction.
£320 will buy tools such as sewing machines, shoe mending kit or farming tools to help poor families generate an income for their family
£400 will pay for a school library to be fully stocked with books
