We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for  Brain Tumour Research titled Mary's Dance to a Cure. I have set up this page on behalf of my mother  Mary , and this is what she had to say.

My name is Mary , Im 60 years old and I was diagnosed with Glioblastorma (GBM) of multiforme , wild type of the occipital lobe in July 2019.

Prior to GBM , I was a Deputy Nurse Manager for aquired brain injury. I was someone who was very independant , I loved my job , I had a social life and importantly a very family oriented person.

I started to feel very strange in April 2019 , there were no significant symptoms however each time I visited the GP , I was prescribed antibiotics for infected sinuses and even suspected Vitamin D deficiency. I knew something was wrong however trusted what the doctors were telling me .

Some of the symptoms I had until my referal for a CT head on 29 June 2019 , consisted of;

  • Clouded judgement
  • Poor cognitive manipulation
  • Fatigue
  • Short term memory loss
  • Disorientated to place and time
  • Anxiety
  • Panick Attacks
  • Facial Pain migrating to the head

As woman who walks by faith , when I was diagnosed at John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford by the neuro registrar , I was with my son and daughter . When you hear the word terminal you fear the worst however I knew I was going to fight and I would survive post 12months . I knew I had to fight for myself , my children , grandchildren and family.

The purpose of this fundraiser is for you all to see my dance skills (haha) and importantly raise awareness for Brain tumour research .

Unfortunatley only 1% of Cancer research only goes to Brain tumour research yet brain tumour cancers are the most fatal.

I believe that I will be here for as long as I need to , terminal or not life is what you make of it . I Thank God ,my children, my family , friends and colleagues alike for your love and support and keeping me going .

I would love for you all to help me raise £1000 towards Brain tumour research .

On 31 December 2020 , I will doing a dance which I have been practising with my daughters .I cant wait to show you my great moves as we celebrate reaching the goal and entering in 2021.

Dance : Jerusalema Dance

Song : Master Kg- Jerusalema remix (Burna Boy and Nomcebo

All proceeds will go into Brain cancer/tumour  research .

Much Love to you all and God Bless abundantly

Mary X

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
