Most people will never go a day without listening to some
form of music, for us it’s a form leisure, however, for some it is a cure.

For me (Freddie), I’ve seen something like this first hand. Last Easter I was going around under privileged schools introducing orchestral music to children. The first day I arrived there I was told to be careful as the young boy about 10 who I was going to be teaching can be very rude and has anger management issues and rarely goes a day of school without becoming aggressive. However, throughout the whole day he had a huge smile on his face and as we were leaving tapped me on the back and said ‘thank you very much Freddie, that the first day of school I’ve actually enjoyed’. I know it’s cheesy, but we really shouldn’t underestimate the effect music can have on people and that is why we’ve chosen to support the fantastic work of Nordoff Robins.

This term, the music scholars are each going to learn an unfamiliar instrument in 2 months. Near the end of the term we're going to hold a concert where all the scholars can showcase their new found talents, along with an ensemble performance of all 22 scholars scratching and squeaking away at one of the BBC 10 pieces.

The week after half term we’ll also have a classic Krispie Crème sale to help us reach our target of over £5000.

UPDATE

After 6 weeks with our new instruments, yesterday the Music Scholars had their solo debut. After some brilliant and humorous performances ranging from Baa Baa Black Sheep to Frere Jacques, there is only one more performance left to give. On Tuesday we will be joining together and performing We Wish You a Merry Christmas in Benenden’s Christmas concert.
