We fund research & provide support to help people affected by brain tumours

Story

The Murray Watson Trust was set up in 2012, by our son’s friends, when Murray was first diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of Brain Tumour In his spinal cord. This meant that Murray not only had to fight the cancer but also an increasing level of disability. His friends wanted to get Murray a specialist stand-up wheelchair so that he would be still be able to go to the pub, spend time with them and be as independent as possible.

Sadly Murray ‘s illness was relentless and we lost our brave, beautiful boy in August 2013. We were lucky to have had Murray as part of our lives for 19 years and with his and our friends support, we continue to raise money into the trust and help people, causes and charities that we know Murray would have felt passionate about.

He always championed the underdog and when you read the facts about Brain Tumour research you will see why we are raising funds for the Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire charity.

The Facts;-
1. Too many people are being faced with the devastating diagnosis each year – every two hours, someone is diagnosed with a brain tumour in England.
2. Brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer
3. Brain tumour research attracts less than 1% of national Cancer Research funding and five-year survival rates are absolutely shocking, recorded at between just 13% and 15% in comparison to 50% to 90% for some other cancers.
4. Brain tumour research is so under-funded in the UK that, in real terms, it is over 25 years behind work done to investigate causes and cures for other cancers.
5. Awareness of the devastation caused by brain tumours is low. Less than 10% of people in the UK know that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
6. Currently, brain tumours cannot be prevented because their cause is still unknown.

Please help us to change the prognosis for some if not all of these facts by raising £3286.00.

Why £3286.00 = 1314 + 1966 + 6

1314 was Murray's favourite number, we don't know why, but he used it for all his passwords etc etc. It could have been his nod towards being as he called it 1/2 Scottish. Born in England but with both his parents being Scottish.

1966 was the year Murray's beloved England won the World Cup and boy did he never let me forget it!

6 was the number he proudly wore on the back of his Guiseley Football shirt from under 7 - under 18

Like the facts say Brain Tumours cannot yet be prevented and as Murray so eloquently called it "Shit luck" could happen to anyone of us, our families or our friends.

Funding and research go hand in hand, please help us to change the facts, your donation will make a difference.
