We invest in education in Eastern Africa to transform the lives of African refugees

Story

My Start is a creative arts project for The Windle Trust that aims to educate British pupils about the plight of young refugees living in camps, as well as those coming into their own schools and communities.
We plan to undertake a 2- week workshop in August 2011. We will teach young students the skills of painting, drawing, film and photography to help express their story. This work will be exhibited in schools to give British students the chance to learn first hand about refugees, and to respond by telling their own stories.
This project will create a unique exchange for students, at a time when Citizenship has become compulsory in the national curriculum and an increasingly relevant topic to young people. Many academies and inner city schools choose to specialise in the subject, exploring the idea of what it is to live in a multi-cultural community and the responsibilities of being a global citizen.
