*** I have sadly had to withdraw from this race, for the very positive reason that I'm now pregnant! I will be keeping this page open though and will be completing my official 100th marathon as soon as I can ***
I'm fundraising for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Catherine Willis, a much loved member of our family who tragically passed away in January 2018 after suffering with a brain tumour. Cath, wife to Alice and mum to Martha, was a real supporter of my running, and so taking on a big race feels like a good way to raise some money to support the work this important charity does.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of children & young people under 40. Almost 11,000 people are diagnosed every year, and just 19% of adults survive for more than 5 years after diagnosis. The Brain Tumour Charity fund research to try to increase survival rates and reduce the devastating effect that brain tumours can have on quality of life.
In October 2018 I'll be running the "Autumn 100" - a non-stop 100 mile trail race, which I'm hoping to finish in under 24 hours. It will also be my 100th official marathon or ultra which will earn me membership of the 100 Marathon Club.
The last time I ran this sort of distance was 2015 and although I've recently managed to drag myself around a few shorter events, since having the twins I've barely been training, so I'm going to have to work incredibly hard to get fit enough to take on such a long race. Trying to find the time to run, around looking after the children, family life and work is going to be a new challenge (that so far I've not managed!) but raising money in Cath's memory will give me an extra reason to get training!
Hopefully this challenge is one that's hard enough to make it worth sponsoring me! Please give what you can for this important charity.
