Fibromyalgia is a recognised chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. A common illness with 1.5 million people affected in the U.K.  The pain tends to be felt as diffuse aching or burning, often described as head to toe. It may be worse at some times than at others and may also change location, usually becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used most. Add. symptoms often include: unrefreshing sleep, headaches,  cognitive disturbances, clumsiness, dizziness, allergies, sensitivity to environmental changes.

The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but it's thought to be brought on from changes in the way the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) processes pain messages carried around the body.

Sometimes severe trauma has been known to cause fibromyalgia. Car accidents can also be a trigger. It's also suggested that some people are more likely to develop fibromyalgia because of genes inherited from their parents.
