Journey for Jane 2010

This is a special appeal to raise much needed funds for the Princess Alice Hospice in Surrey in memory of Jane Prince.

The hospice gave unbelievable support and kindness to Jane in the last few months of her life in 2009. While Jane didn’t go into the hospice once, she was constantly cared for at home by the outreach specialist nurses day and night. They thought of everything from coordinating the adaptation of our home to providing and anticipating all of the medication needed to keep Jane’s pain at bay. If we needed them they were always with us in a flash. They worked closely with the district nurses and our local doctor to makes sure that we had the best possible care. As a family we were looked after too. Until you confront a situation like this, it really is impossible to imagine just how important the hospice is and how much we all need it in our community.

Jane suffered from breast cancer for 8 years and we thought we’d beaten it for five when it returned. During all of those years Jane never gave up hope, nor did we, the family. In many respects we did more than we’d ever done before, making the most of every day.

Jane carried on working until she could do so no more. She worked for Kingston Council helping disabled people herself with adaptations to their homes and before that for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. She was also a keen runner and a great mum and wife.

In 2004 we did something we’d always dreamed of and with some good friends bought a flat in Cerbere, France. Cerbere is the most southerly town, village really, in France on the frontier with Spain. This became such a big part of Jane’s life that soon after her funeral the idea emerged to organise a sponsored bicycle ride from Epsom to Cerbere. Home to home in effect. We will be ably supported by friends doing the back up driving.

So we, by which I mean me, my son James, my future son in laws (fingers crossed) Enis and James 2, and twelve other good friends are setting off to do the 750 miles in ten days starting on 18th June this year, 2010.

This is quite a physical challenge but the real aim is to raise as much money as we can for Princess Alice Hospice which helps people in Surrey and South West London.

So, please support us as generously as you can. Every penny will count and help this great organisation.

If you wish to contact me personally, please feel free.

Thank and best wishes.

Neil, Jane’s husband
