We support the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance to help keep saving lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

During many years of road cycling I have had the pleasure to
support large national Charities, those that have affected my close family and friends – mainly Cancer Charities and the British Heart Foundation.

When I decided to take on this fresh new challenge to cycle the tough LEJOG (Lands End to John O Groats) I thought it would be great
to support a smaller, local charity that could be needed by each and every one of us, so I chose the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT)

The EHAAT are a charity and rely totally on donations, receiving only limited funding from the Government.

Donations and volunteer support helps provide a free lifesaving service (HEMS) for the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

This year the EHAAT are celebrating 20 years of saving lives, and have just managed to buy their very own Helicopter, after having rented them for years.

This leads neatly on to our Cycling Club that in fact completed
the first End to End 20 years ago this year, back in 1998.

The Crescent Wheelers Cycling Club (based in Old Harlow) was
formed back in 1903, and still exists today.  Back in 1998, 12 intrepid members completed the LEJOG in 7 days, so we, the ‘newer’ members of 2018, are going to attempt it again, in just 7 days.

On average we must cover at least 130 miles a day, every day regardless of weather conditions, mechanicals etc. We will have a back-up vehicle with us that will be driving ahead and supplying us with food (on the go) and other support as required.

Although now in training mode, what lies ahead for us will be an extremely tough challenge,  physically, mentally and emotionally, and we will have to support each other every day when the going gets tough.

In the past most of us have completed day long Sportive events covering perhaps 130 miles or so, but never have we done this back to
back for a week !

By doing this crazy challenge for a charity I am hoping that it will give me the encouragement and incentive to keep me going when times get tough and tiring, knowing that for every mile I cycle, I would have raised some money for this great charity.

Some stats for the records:

Where:  Lands End to John O Groats.Distance:  Just under  900 miles  (1600Kms) When:   Sunday August 12th through to Saturday 18th August.Who:   Crescent Wheelers CC:  3 members taking part.
