Having a new baby admitted to special care is very distressing. With this project, we hope to make a hard time a little more comfortable by building a special room where parents can rest, prepare a meal or see their relatives.

Story

We are four dads (Peter Slater, Andrew Lewis, Andrew Hall and Glyn Doggett) who have all had children cared for by the Lister's Neonatal Unit.

On Saturday 13th October in the main corridor of the Lister Hospital we will be attempting to ride for 12 hours. During this time our goal is to cycle about 874 miles (the equivalent to traveling from Lands End to John O'Groats).

The aim is to raise as much money as we can for the Lister Hospital's Neonatal Unit that did so much for our little ones at the start of their lives. Some of us are fitter than others so we need all the motivation we can to take on this challenge!

All monies raised will go towards the East and North Herts Hospitals: Lister Neonatal Big Build, creating a better experience for families with children in neonatal care.

The Neonatal Unit at the Lister Hospital cares for over 900 poorly babies each year, with the average stay on the neonatal unit at the Lister Hospital being 12 weeks. The unit is often at, or close to, the full capacity of 30 babies; with two visitors per baby allowed on the ward. The current families lounge only has enough room for six visitors at a time, with limited cooking and washing facilities. The demand far outweighs capacity and lack of facilities results in parents spending unnecessary time away from the unit. This project hopes to make a hard time a little more comfortable by building a special room where parents can rest, prepare a meal and relatives can visit, with toys provided for young siblings.
