Story

My story in full: https://www.meningitisnow.org/support-us/news-centre/meningitis-stories/nick-gs-story/

In July 2018 I was hospitalised with Meningococcal Meningitis. What followed were some of the hardest months of my life, where my body and mind were no longer functioning in a way that I was used to. I'm incredibly fortunate to have made a full recovery and to be here today. You can read the full story of my experience by following the link above.

In May 2019 I ran the Vitality 10,000 raising £1,557 for Meningitis Now. What began as a goal to help my recovery by giving me something to aim for, became the start of an ongoing volunteering relationship between myself and an incredible charity.

Since completing the 10km, I have worked with Meningitis Now on a number of fronts. Most importantly I am now enrolled in their "Believe & Achieve" program, to become a mentor for young Meningitis survivors. I will be receiving training and get assigned to a mentee in February 2020!

Aside from this, I took part in multiple radio interviews and press interviews to help Meningitis Now launch their "Check it, Don't Chance it" campaign. A campaign focused on ensuring 16-25 year old's have received their MenACWY vaccine. Campaign information here: https://www.meningitisnow.org/support-us/news-centre/news-stories/keep-young-people-safe/

And recently been featured in the "New Year, New You" campaign to encourage people to get involved with and take part in events for Meningitis Now. Story here: https://www.meningitisnow.org/support-us/news-centre/news-stories/nyny-london-10000/

Therefore, in contrast to the Vitality 10,000, the London Landmarks Half Marathon - which I will be running on 29th March 2020 -  is not about achieving something for myself. It is about continuing to support an immensely  important charity, raising more awareness about Meningitis itself and the difficulties people, their friends and families face when they are impacted by this horrible disease.

Thank you for any support you can provide, it means a huge amount.
