Story

Dear Friend/Family,

Thank you for visiting our fund raising page. We are first time runners of the London Marathon and are looking to raise as much money as possible for Phab. No matter how big or small, every donation is gratefully received! Thank you for supporting us and this great charity.

We will be training night and day from now until April 13th to try and crack the 4hour barrier. Hope to see you at the finish line,

Best wishes,

Rob & Nick

The Event

From Blackheath in the South East, the gruelling 26.2 mile course spans two hemispheres and winds its way through the historic streets of the capital finishing outsideBuckinghamPalace.

Cutty Sark, The London Eye andTowerBridge are just a few of the landmarks passed along the way as some 46000 competitors strive to conquer this great race.

Since the first London Marathon in 1981 some £315 million have been raised for charities around the world and with your help we would like to make our own contribution.

The Charity

Phabkids aims to promote and encourage people with and without physical disabilities to come together on equal terms, to achieve complete integration within the wider community and to make more of life together.

Phab has a network of around 200 integrated junior, youth and adult clubs throughout . Activities range from sailing and orienteering to theatre visits and quiz evenings. By meeting on equal terms, members appreciate and respect one another as individuals, irrespective of any differences or disabilities.

The objects and the aims of the Phab organisation have remained the same for almost 50 years, they are probably more relevant today than at any time in its existence. The Charity's long-held philosophy of bringing together people with and without physical disabilities on equal terms bears remarkable similarity of aim to the new promotion of social inclusion.

Although much has been achieved for disabled people since the 'Year of the Disabled' in 1981, there is still a long way to go before they are fully integrated within our society. Phab's aim is to do just that.

The Team

Rob Jenkins – Weighing in on the wrong side of 14 stone, this 30 year old heavy-weight is surely on a collision course with the dreaded “wall”! Progress has been steady in training however and with a few more miles under his belt Rob is hoping to crack the 4hr marathon.

Nick Ashley-Cooper – the lean, mean, running machine that is nick has been finely tuned through months of preparation and hard work and is set to make his marathon debut. Since announcing to his family that he was going to run the New York marathon three years ago (greeted with a round of laughs) it has been nicks ambition to make it around the 26mile course. Sadly, his first training attempt failed due to a poorly planned training regime and troubles with the left knee. This time he has come back with a vengeance and nothing (even his knee) will stop him now.
