We fund vital research into breast cancer to increase survival after diagnosis

Story

Hello All!

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my JustGiving page.

Just under 3 weeks to go, this is getting serious. Everything has been sent my way to try and derail my training - posterior shin splints, several colds and a new job, but I'm still doing it.

As an introduction of sorts. For those who don't already know me, my name is Nicky, I'm a 30 year old I.T Professional from the Rhondda Valley in south Wales.

I have chosen to run the Cardiff Half Marathon this year in aid of Against Breast Cancer, a UK based breast cancer research organisation that carry out excellent work in the pursuit of more effective treatments and a cure for breast cancer.

Breast Cancer is a disease that can affect pretty much anyone at any stage of their life. This was proven to me in a stark manner when my Aunt Susan was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in mid-January of this year. Susan has always been a fit and healthy person who runs, walks and bikes something like 30-40 miles per week and admittedly lives an extremely healthy lifestyle compared to most people. The fact that she still managed to suffer this illness even after living such a healthy life proved to me that this illness could potentially strike anyone at any given time.

Susan has in the past few weeks gone through surgery and is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy in order to fully eradicate this instance of the illness. She maintains a positive outlook in the face of adversity and is already back on the exercise plan and can usually be found sprinting up and down the mountains of the Rhondda Valley.

In light of this bravery and determination, giving up a few hours of my time every week and running the 13 odd miles in October is just about the least I could do in the scale of things.

Against Breast Cancer apply ground breaking research in their work and use actual breast cancer patient samples in order to identify information that could identify the cause and stop the spread of the disease and save needlessly lost lives.

Against Breast Cancer do not test on animals or fund any form of animal testing and all of their testing is carried out on human samples of the disease in order to improve the efficiency of their research.

Like I mentioned earlier, I've put this up early in order to allow people who may want to donate but find that funds are a bit tight at the moment a chance to wait until a payday passes or a student loan comes in or whatever. If you cannot donate now, just Bookmark the page and come back in a few weeks.

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can also donate by text/SMS.

Simply text CCFC82 £1 to 70070 to donate a pound (Or simply change the amount to whatever amount you wish to donate, and away you go. Simple!)

E.G Text CCFC82 £5 to 70070 to donate £5. etc etc. You're all intelligent people, you can do this without me needing to give you any more examples!

Remember to select Gift Aid, that way the charity gets an extra 25% of the amount you donated and the funds aren't eaten up by the Taxman etc etc. Everything will be explained to you when you donate.
