Oil NRG, through our depots in Birtley, Hartlepool, Thetford and York, are lending our fundraising support to the 'Borne' charity; a medical research charity whose aim is to identify the causes of premature birth to save lives, prevent disability and create lifelong health for mothers and babies, and give millions of children the chance of a full life, free of disability.

• Premature birth is the leading cause of childhood disability and death, more significant than infection, trauma or cancer
• 15 million babies are born too soon each year. 1 million die.
• In the UK, 1-in-12 babies are born preterm. That's 60,000 children that would fill 285 primary schools.
• 1-in-10 premature babies will develop a permanent disability, with 50% of premature babies born before the 26th week of gestation are disabled.
• Babies born too soon face many challenges and it comes with a very high emotional and financial cost to our society.
• 85% of women who present with threatened preterm labour, did not know they were at risk. For 45-50% or preterm births, the cause is unknown.
• Borne know that if we can prolong all pregnancies destined to deliver preterm by a week, we can save the NHS £260,000,000 a year.
• There have been no new treatments introduced to prolong pregnancy to term in over 50 years!
• Only by investing in research will we understand what causes preterm labour, how to prevent early labour, and give future children a full and healthy life, unaffected by disability.
