We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Every year I try to challenge myself and do something in memory of my dad Igor, who passed away from cancer in 2017 in the age of 57. He wasn't just the best example of what the dad should be, he was also my best friend. We enjoyed many activities together, but the one we loved the most was cycling. No matter what the weather was - sun, snow, cold, warm - my dad was always up for a ride!

Therefore, I thought that this year I should do something cycling related. I've searched for the toughest cycling events happening in the UK in 2019 and decided to sign up for the Ride Across Britain in September this year.

The ride will be covering 980 miles (1580 km) from Land's End to John O'Groats in 9 days. This is 108 miles (174 km) per day on average with the total climb of 15,000m over the 9 days. That is almost twice the height of Everest! And I've never ridden more than 100 miles in one ride and have never done more than 3 consecutive days of cycling...

Similar to the last year, I will be challenging myself in support of the charity fighting with cancer. This year it will be Cancer Research UK, the charity whose  mission is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured by supporting research into all types of cancer and across all age groups.

Please help me raise £1700 for Cancer Research UK and help this charity in achieving their mission.

p.s. The whole thing becomes even more challenging as I had an ACL surgery on my right knee in January and has only got back in a saddle last week (23 March). But I am doing everything needed to get back into shape before September.

i. “All donations will be paid to Cancer Research UK, a registered charity in England and Wales (No. 1089464), Scotland (No. SC041666) and the Isle of Man (No. 1103)”; and
ii. “ Cancer Research UK will be paying the balance of my trip costs out of the sponsorship monies that I raise. The amount paid by Cancer Research UK to Threshold will not exceed 50% of the fundraising target”.

Thank you very much

Oleg
