Drought drives people to the brink. Storms tear families apart. Raging waters show no mercy. In Kenya the climate crisis has made weather more extreme, whether long drought or relentless rainstorms. Join us this Christian Aid Week (10th -16th) May!
Story
Here's the thing...
Christian Aid has been working in Kenya since 1997.
The climate crisis is having a significant impact on Kenyan communities.
The coronavirus pandemic has increased the urgent need for families to have access to a reliable source of water.
Many people have to walk long distances over several hours to fetch water, and droughts are making things worse as rivers dry up.
One way communities are trying to cope is by creating their own earth dams.
They desperately need help and resources....
The cost of building a dam is £907 viz:
Wheelbarrow £27
Water Point £335
Skilled labour £545
Total £907
To help young people understand the problem and become part of the solution, we're running the Kinross Christian Aid Group Water Bucket Challenge. The idea is to invite young people from within and out-with the church family to get sponsored by their friends and family to collect a bucket of water from Kirkgate Park Jetty at Loch Leven and then carry it up to Kinross Parish Church where it will be poured into a water butt and subsequently used to water plants in the church garden. The challenge will take place on a Saturday 15th May between 10am - 2pm. Buckets and T-shirts will be provided for each participant. Participants can come whenever it suits them and socially distance to comply with prevailing restrictions. As an encouragement / reward we will offer a sausage sizzle in the church grounds as a thank you.
